I've got the gear change paddles on the steering wheel, think I've used them once on a particularly vicious hairpin bend.

Recently after I pulled out onto an empty road, from a minor road, a BMW that was behind me on the minor roar, came steaming up behind me, lights flashing.

So I slipped the gear lever into Sport position, dropped a couple of gears with the paddles...... and left him for dust !!

I bet he was surprised...

He certainly couldn't catch up, try as he may, until the speed limit reduced, and I slowed.

My annual Police high speed training course comes in very useful sometimes, as does the Government sponsored Escape & Evasion training, undertaken as part of our Government Contract requirements.

My ex-Police driver and I keep each other up to date on the latest techniques.

We have some interesting trips !

And we have great fun off road circuit trials.

Re: Automatic Cars

Bring back the days when all we had to contend with was a centre 'beep beep' horn push..... and those 'sticky stick out' semaphore signal indicators. Great fun, but both totally useless.

Used to have one just like this, my first ever car. UPD992. Amazing how we remember registrations.

A perfect example of bad driving on your part...  and also of the BMW driver,

Both actions could easily be termed......

Driving without due care and attention.

You should be ashamed.

Re: Automatic Cars

@Minivanman Not to mention foot operated dip-switches. I've had a couple of cars with those. Thought I'd heard somewhere they were making a come-back.

Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: Automatic Cars

Ah yes, my minivans had those as well. Remember the indicator arm with that green light on the end..... and the floor mounted starter button!

Those early minis certainly had 'minimum' gadgets.

Re: Automatic Cars

I quite like the new Bentley Bentayga to replace one of my older ones !

Or I may buy a SRT Jeep Grand Cherokee, 0-60 in 3.5 seconds

Some interesting videos if you Google SRT Jeep Grand Cherokee Launch Control.

I sometimes get boy racers up close behind me at traffic lights....

They don't seem to notice the 4.7l and V8 badges on the Jeep Grand Cherokees

Boy do they get a surprise.

Re: Automatic Cars

Can we please keep the bickering about peoples driving skills to a minimum please. Non-existent would be nice.

There are two members here with history. It would be nice if they either play nice or ignore each other.

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!
