Are you really getting the quoted NCD?

With the recent threads on car insurance and with mine due early next month I set a little experiement.
I got online quotes from 4 companies. The first time I put zero years NCD. Then I edited the details to put the full NCD that I have (well over 9 years). Then I added NCD proctection.
All other details stayed the same including a voluntary excess of £400 and Legal Protection.
Churchill (Maximum NCD quoted as 65%)
£695.36 With zero NCD
£363.58 with maximum NCD
£412.34 With maximum NCD and protection
Endsleigh(Maximum NCD quoted as 75%)
£794.18 With zero NCD
£361.95 with maximum NCD
£377.91 With maximum NCD and protection
AXA (Maximum NCD quoted as 90%)
£557.26 With zero NCD
£232.40 with maximum NCD
£232.40 With maximum NCD and protection
Swinton (Maximum NCD quoted as 65%)
£530.48 With zero NCD
£253.49 with maximum NCD
£279.42 With maximum NCD and protection
Swinton was the only quotation to actually state that the "with NCD" quote was from a different company than without.
Although the above was in no way a scientific approach it did show a lack of transparancy and the potential idea that the NCD is seemingly arbitarty.

Re: Are you really getting the quoted NCD?

Churchill and AXA would be quoting their own rates whereas Swinton and Endsleigh are brokers so will quote from a variety of companies.

And from experience some will offer a certain amount of NCB because of various other reasons.
