Are Uni Students Really This Dumb?

From one of my assignments:
Quote
this is an individual project providing a practical introduction to conceptual data modelling, logical modelling and database system development.  (Please note that this is not a group project.)

Surely if it's an individual project it goes without saying it's not a group project, or is the world really that dumb?

Just to add - teaching maths in 1950
A logger sells a truckload of timber for £100.
His cost of production is 11/12 of the price.
What is his profit in pounds, shillings and pence - and for the younger members there were 20 shillings in a pound and 12 pennies in a shilling

Re: Are Uni Students Really This Dumb?

Sounds like a load of trucking nonsense to me...
Was it worth it for 20 quid?
But seriously, take your points about dumb.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: Are Uni Students Really This Dumb?

A few years ago an OFSTED inspector was proudly told by the head of a primary school that they used computers in all the lessons and invited the inspector to see for himself.
"OK, how about showing me a maths lesson"
The head took the inspector in to a classroom. At the front of the class were eight computers and all the children were gathered round.
The teacher was saying "Right children, here we have eight computers. If we take away three computers...

With todays kids I am surprised that instead of £20 it is not stated as a percentage of the cost of a computer game or pair of trainers. But that said they would have to have a year having percentages being explained to them. Cheesy

Re: Are Uni Students Really This Dumb?

Going back to early 60s, at a secondary modern school, we had a music teacher who without fail would ask in each end of term exam "Who wrote Handel's Water Music?" or "Who wrote Ravel's Bolero?" Undecided
So, as you can imagine, without fail all sorts of names were suggested! - the most popular was Cliff Richards or Elvis Presley! Smiley Roll eyes

Re: Are Uni Students Really This Dumb?

Actually, I believe the clarification is necessary but only because of the lack of skill in composing the first line.
An individual project is more commonly understood to mean a project which is singularly identifiable from other projects. In the context of the original statement it means a project to be untertaken by individuals and therefore the additional explanation is not superfluous.
I'm with Paul Calf on this one.
