Apollo 11 - almost 40 years - was it real or a scam

It's almost 40 years since we saw Apollo 11 mission and Neil Armstrongs " That's one small step for  man, one giant leap for mankind. " - 20th July 1969.
Since then conspiracy theories have suggested it was a scam and and done in studios.
What do you believe ?

A very elaborate scam if it was one. Can't imagine after all these years that someone in the know wouldn't have broken ranks.
Think you have a typo in your subject Wink

Re: Apollo 11 - almost 40 years - was it real or a scam

I dunno! it wouldn't surprise me to find that some of the early film footage was shot in Death Valley desert (as the rumour goes) But not to cover up an actual non-event, but to be prepared for some sort of disaster or failure of the actual photography to work properly.
Personally, much as I love a good conspiracy theory, I think Apollo 11 did indeed complete its mission as advertised.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

If Apollo 11 was a scam what about Apollo's 12,14,15,16 and 17?

Re: Apollo 11 - almost 40 years - was it real or a scam

One summer I worked at Apache Point as a Lab Rat (labatory technician)
Part of my work program was to backup the kit that took the data from the lasar ranging measurments from earth to the moon.
If I remember there were 5 sets of reflectors, someone somehow got the laser reflectors up there.
Of course they could have been placed by ET's
Think I'd more believe in the Apollo program placing them than ET's,
Perhaps unmanned missions?  but why place 5 when one would do the job.

I strongly suspect the Apollo 11 landing footage was faked - believe it was cold war propaganda
now maybe they did set foot on the moon then BUT the footage was filmed before they blasted off on the saturn rocket - that I could find more believable

If faked, why did the films made at the time have much better CGI than we have now?

Considering how rubbish governments are at keeping some secrets (some of them quite small), it's amazing how good they are at keeping some others.  Roll eyes

Very expensive to put another one there if one of them broke ...

Re: Apollo 11 - almost 40 years - was it real or a scam

I'm certain it really happened - and I was at a very influential age when it was going on - in my late teens +
and watched most of the missions on live TV whenever on.
One of my ambitions is to visit the Space museum at the Space centre - but so far not made it. But we did have one of the Apollo spacecraft at the London Science Museum - maybe it's still there ?.

Yes they did when I went there nearly 2 years ago. There was something I was watching on TV in the last couple of months which was filmed from the London Science Musuem and in the background you could see part of the display so could still be there. Also don't forget there is no entrance fee so a cheap few hours enjoyment.

Sorry put it on ebay some time ago Smiley
Actually I can't remember seeing one there unless it was well hidden.  They do have one at the Smithsonian in DC.  This is well worth a visit.  You could spend a whole week in there.
