Anyone old enough to remember the 60`s?
Who were you favourite singers /and or groups?
Did any of you used to listen to the pirate radio station
Radio Caroline?
Or, (non-pirate) Radio Luxemburg?
Any favourite DJ`s?
I still remember it all very well - the era of `flower power` - transistor radios -
hot pants - and long sunny days.

Quote Who were you favourite singers /and or groups?
Yes, the pirates, with an earplug and a transistor radio under the pillow at my boarding school on the North Kent coast and Luxemburg (but with awful reception) from the best radio in the area in the house on the highest hill. No favourite DJ's, the music was what was important.

I always thought of hot pants as a '70s thing, and flower power was late 60s, after the era of the Mods and Rockers.

SRD,
No, around `64 - `66 as I remember - I was in the 12/14 yr age group.
They were good days.
I still enjoy most of the 60`s (and early 70`s) music.

I think they were made popular with the song Smarty Pants in 1972/3?

I dont know what area of the UK you were in, but we had those
in the 60s. By the early 70`s I was 20-21 and certainly werent
walking round the streets in hot pants.
In actual fact those in that pic are not even the same thing.
The ones we wore were shorts +bib with straps.
They werent just shorts. But we knew them as hot pants (maybe
cause at that age we thought we looked `hot` in them - the mind boggles
when we think back lol)

I seem to remember Pans People then Legs & Co wearing them frequently on TOTP.
I lived in South London at the time.

Santiago,
Unfortunately I dont have any pics.
( and even if I did, then this would be the very last place
on earth that I would post them LOL )
Photos werent such a big deal back then as they are
nowadays. Maybe thats because ppl now have digital
cams whereas when I was growing up if you had a camera
it was the type where pics had to be developed & that wasnt
all that cheap.
I wish now that I`d included the 70`s in the thread title, cause
maybe more ppl relate to that than the 60`s.
Anyway, just take it that it includes the 70`s as well.

Googling suggests that Mary Quant 'invented' hot pants in the 60s, but I can't find any photographic evidence pre 1970, I do recall those short boilersuit type things, but they were never like the 70's satin hot pants. Of course I was a mere child in those days, a good 18 months younger than you, and we lived out in the sticks, although my parents had extremely fashionable friends who had moved on from MQ and the like by the time the 60s were on the way out. It was a difficult time, fashionably, for those who weren't into hippy gear.

As far as photos are concerned, wasn't it the time of those first instant cameras, the ones that printed the pictures out from the back of the camera? Not that they lasted long.

Yes your description is spot on lol.
Anyway, enough about hot pants.
There must other things ppl remember about the 60`s and 70`s.
I remember getting bought my first transistor radio and walking around
with that everywhere I went.
Makes me cringele now thinking back to how ridiculous all that flower power
stuff must have looked - flowers in the hair, ribbon with a bell or someat like
that on it.

I never did get to San Francisco LOL.

SRD,
Those are horrid.
Mine did not look like that.
I had a denim pair and a red pair (even more `hot`) lol.
Would never have wore stripey ones!
