Annoying background music in adverts on tv

I am getting increasingly annoyed by the "inane" musical background to tv ads.... in particular
B & Q current advert.... and (I think) Homebase
B&Q have this out of tune jumping about violin sound that goes nowhere,
Homebase had some git whistling out of tune but with no tune anyway....
Oh yes, another one is the stupid Macdonalds" whistle at the end of their ad
any others ? ? ? ?

Re: Annoying background music in adverts on tv

I Tend to record most things so I can skip through these silly ads. I Think the theory is the dafter the ad is the more likely you will remember it.
Thought I read somewhere what some time of DVD recorders could actually recognise when adverts were shown and block them out automatically.
It's the noisy background music in programs that gets my goat rather than noisy ads.
Sorry I am drifting off the main topic........

Re: Annoying background music in adverts on tv

Quite right shutter. But, I think its entirely deliberate, anything that draws your attention to an ad be it whether you like it or annoyed by it because of excessive music volume will suit the ad agency very well. They know the product has been registered in your mind whether you like it or not.
We cheat and switch the TV mute on during the ads. But we're probably concentrating on the ads to a greater extent trying to imagine what's being said. Which suits the ad maker even more.
I and several others on this forum find background music in programmes even more irritating
Edit: Oooop's sorry gleneagles you just beat me to that observation.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

I can set my Humax to skip the ads.  Just press a button and the recording jumps forward Smiley
