And now an urgent SOS message.........

These words used to be heard regularly on the radio, anyone remember it, or when it stopped being broadcast?  Seems to have slipped away without notice.
(There is a radio program on radio 4 on Tuesday at 20:00 about it)

Re: And now an urgent SOS message.........

Yes, I remember them from the 70s. Usually came up just before the main news programmes on Radio 4 (especially the 6 p.m. one). They usually went something like:
Here is an S.O.S. message for a Mrs Freda Botmow, thought to be travelling in the West Country in a silver Ford Granada, registration number OMG 666 T. If you know of her whereabouts, please ask her to contact Essex Police in connection with her brother Fred, who is dangerously ill."
I think it's the only context in which I heard the term "dangerously ill". Used to give me the willies, that I do remember...

Yes I remember the messages.  I assume the increase in use of mobiles has made the messages less likely to be needed these days.

Re: And now an urgent SOS message.........

I remember them, too.... however.... with my R.N. communications background, I think they were bogus....
I suspect they were clandestine messages to our undercover MI6 agents, that were being contacted with code messages.
The same as during  WWII, when the BBC used to put out stupid "innocuous" messages just before the 9 PM news on the world service, to agents in France and Germany, etc.

There`s been a strange van parked at the end of our road... it has a funny looking cobweb thingy on the roof, and two blokes with sun glasses  Cool Cool and raincoats on, with wide brimmed hats inside.......

Suggest you change your WiFi SSID to “MI5 Surveillance” , that should sort things out or at least scare the neighbours Roll eyes

If it was the FBI or CIA you could spend the rest of your life living it up in a foreign embassy.
