Ancestry

Access to a lot of information at Ancestry.com is free this Labor Day weekend.
I was able to track my father, around 80 years ago, travelling back & forwards across the Atlantic when he was a Midland Bank rep on the Cunarders. Reps travelled 1st class so must have been an interesting few years.
Apart from New York/Southampton he'd been to places like Havana, Haifa, Halifax ( Nova Scotia) Cherbourg etc.

Re: Ancestry

Hi Nadger.
Did a bit of digging back into the past myself and found that I have French ancestors. Yuk.

Re: Ancestry

I recall a joke, from years ago, where someone had spent £500 researching his ancestry and £20,000 keeping it quiet  Wink
Just added them up and my father made 45 round-trip Atlantic crossings, on Cunarders, in a four year period between 1928/32
One thing I spotted, looking at passenger lists, was the number of staff, like maids & nurses, who also travelled first class. I suppose the very rich wanted their staff nearby as a status symbol.
