Alton Towers... Leg Injuries
As in Aircraft... whilst shoulders and body are restrained.... the legs are not
In an impact, the legs fly forwards, and hit whatever is in front.
So they get injured, or break.

Re: Alton Towers Crash!

I still remember the 1972 Battersea Big Dipper disaster where 5 children died including 2 from my school. I think that still remains the UK's worst theme park disaster Cry

Re: Alton Towers Crash!

I'd rather just ride the trams at Beamish, far safer, cos they were built about a century ago... Grin

Re: Alton Towers Crash!

The 17 year-old-girl who was one of the seriously injured has had her leg amputated above the knee.
Quote
Leah Washington was on the front row of the Smiler ride, which crashed into an empty carriage in front of it.

Quote
Her leg was amputated above the left knee and she also suffered a fractured left hand.

Very sad for the poor girl.

Very sad.
Even worse when it's a young person, and in this case I think she was keen on athletics.
At least they have had the sense to stop similar rides until the cause of the accident is determined.

Re: Alton Towers Crash!

Not much consolation in this case but, with the profits Alton Towers / Merlin Entertainment make, I'm sure she'll be in line for some serious compensation.

So true, hard to even start to imagine what she must be going through both physically and emotionally now and in the future.
No amount of money will change that.

I think I saw reported at least £2mill pay out for her somewhere?
