Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden dead

Good riddance as far as I am concerned.

Quote
Al-Qaeda founder and leader Osama Bin Laden has been killed by US forces in Pakistan, President Obama has said.

The al-Qaeda leader was killed in a ground operation outside Islamabad based on US intelligence, the first lead for which emerged last August.
Mr Obama said after "a firefight", US forces took possession of his body.
Bin Laden was accused of being behind a number of atrocities, including the attacks on New York and Washington on 11 September 2001.
He was top of the US "most wanted" list.

Re: Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden dead

what's the betting he's been dead for years and they've decided that there's no more mileage in pretending he's alive?

Re: Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden dead

I see that the house where he's supposed to have been was 800 yards from The Pakistan Military Academy.
If it's true, that he's dead, then there will be reprisals  Sad

Re: Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden dead

I like the " he was buried at sea according to Islamic custom & tradition"
How about " his body was chucked out of a plane, over the sea, to prevent any possibility of his grave becoming a martyr's shrine"

As Nadger says there could be reprisals. Here in the US all airports are on extra security which will cause delays. A global travel alert has been issued by the US government.

Anyone think this is related to Will and Kate's "postponed" honeymoon to Jordan.

Re: Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden dead

I dunno all seems a bit iffy to me.
They find him, put a bullet in his head and then bury him out at sea to respect his religion/faith? Since when did the USA care about its prisoners pr their dead bodies?
No photos of the body either.
artificers comment was rather chilling.. How do we know if he's even dead? Or if he has how long he has really been dead?
I see this becoming another Area 51 / Elvis / Moon landings conspiracy to be honest.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

journeys, I think you could be very much on target there.  The operation has been under planning for the past week.  A local congressman here in Florida said this morning he had been involved in the planning. The operation was masterminded from McDill which is the control centre for such operations.
