Aircraft near miss

Two jets nearly collide at Barcelona airport
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1N5THRSp4hM
This is what the airport had to say about the incident:
Quote
AENA, Spain’s airport management firm which is soon to be part-privatized, said that there was never any danger and that the planes, including the Aerolíneas Argentinas craft which was taxiing toward its take-off point, were in correct positions, according to Spanish daily El Mundo.
The newspaper quotes an AENA spokesperson as saying that the landing could have proceeded unhindered because there was a sufficient gap between the two planes.

Re: Aircraft near miss

Probably, pretty much the same..... except to add....  " The aircraft did get rather close to each other........ "  Cheesy
Credit to the pilot landing...... Nice smooth evasive action....

Re: Aircraft near miss

I'm not sure ANEA's comments were credible. This could have been a collision had it not been for the quick action from the incoming pilot.

most likely "pilot error" and almost definitely so if he had died in the crash .....
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you

Re: Aircraft near miss

It seems like after the media picked up on this, the airport operators/Spanish regulators are looking at the incident again.
Rather worrying how they tried to dismiss the seriousness of it in the first instant.

Re: Aircraft near miss

Whatever the airport says that was plainly a major cock up that very nearly had disastrous consequences.

Re: Aircraft near miss

Its a European airport, due to there size both aircraft would have had to have TCAS fitted.
The incoming 767 pilot's while not expecting it would have spotted the A340 entering there runway & the TCAS system on both plane's would have issued instructions to both aircraft to help both crew's avoid a collision.
Someone has cocked up, until the investigation is carried out we wont know who or what is to blame for this near miss.

Re: Aircraft near miss

Without the electronics though, you would still have expected the pilot crossing the runway to check to make sure no planes were landing first. You could hardly miss them!

This incident has the hallmarks of USAir Flight 1493, which is frequently repeated on Nat Geo.
