Acronyms

Watching the BBC News this afternoon, a woman was being interviewed about pay equality at the BBC.

She was talking about the same job, the same hours, the same KPIs.

At that point the interviewer stopped the woman and prompted her to expand on the term KPI which she responded with Key Performance Indicator. The interview was then continued.

I have seen this many times and wonder if this is a policy at the BBC, itself an acronym.

Re: Acronyms

An abbreviation is only acronym if it can be pronounced as a word. KPI and BBC are not acronyms.

Beg to differ. DVD, for example is classed as an Acronym.

Re: Acronyms

Yes but in phone jacker speak that can be pronounced "doov-dah" lol.

Just like he pronounces DVLA as "doovla".

Re: Acronyms

@Strat

Was she wearing a Women Talking Feminism T-shirt abbreviated to that well known acronym? Wink

Wouldn't it be something if the female newsreader when live on air turned to her make colleague when reporting on this and said something along the lines of "So John, I earn £50,000 a year, how much do you earn?" To which his reply may be "Well Mary, that's between myself and the BBC" and then she might say, "Well there you go, that answers my question I guess"

Never going to happen I know but........

I know where I am, I've been lost here before.
