Sky News
A court says there is not enough evidence to convict him over a bomb plot
Quote
The Home Office said there was no chance of Abu Qatada returning to the UK.
A spokesman said: "Abu Qatada remains subject to a deportation order and a United Nations travel ban. He is not coming back to the UK."

Re: Abu Qatada - cleared

he'll be back here in a year tops once he has been granted the "right to return to his family home" by an EU court, failing that he'll be in the back of a truck and get in that way, plenty of aid convoys that will get him out of Jordan and totally ignore any travel ban ....

Re: Abu Qatada - cleared

the one that agreed to his deportation order being valid, now he has been found not guilty there would be grounds to have it overturned so as not to adversely disadvantage his family that remained in the UK by depriving them of his presence

Re: Abu Qatada - cleared

That was the European Court of Human Rights, not an EU court.
Seeing as he's been deported, I fail to see what can be over turned. He's not coming back to the UK - he's also subject to a UN travel restriction.

Re: Abu Qatada - cleared

either its located somewhere within the EU or its not, its got the word Europe in the title so I'd say that's a bit of a giveaway ......
the UN travel ban can be lifted, its only in place because he no petition to have it rescinded has yet been heard at the UN, however they would be hard pressed to keep it in place now that he has been found not guilty of the only crime he was alleged to have committed.
be as pernickety as you like but I very much doubt the home secretary will be able to do anything legally to prevent his future return.

Either way it is a European court, regardless of which status it has, as the "EU" stands for European (does it not) ?Huh

No, EU stands for European Union and the ECHR is totally separate from it.

Wasn't his family already 'shipped out'?

Obviously, but in the context of this thread it clearly stands for European Union.
