Re: Absolutely Ridiculous: can you beat 5?

nearly
we get/can have a black bin for non recycle, a green for garden rubbish for recycle then plastic and tins into one plastic clear bag, paper and card into another, the dont collect bottles at the door, but the bins for those a various places round the district  have a clear/blue/brown bin that is seven  oh and we can have a free small caddy for the kitchen and discounted compost bins for the garden.
The council has a good publicity web site http://www.braintree.gov.uk/Braintree/environment/recycling/default.htm and claims good response
Quote
15,172 tonnes were recycled - that includes the materials you put out in your clear sacks for recycling and all the materials you took to your local recycling centres.
10,437 tonnes were composted - that's all the garden waste and food waste you put out in your green bins
That gave us a recycling rate of just over 45%, an increase over the previous year (2007/0Cool which was 42.8%.
But this still means that 31,245 tonnes of waste was sent to landfill

Re: Absolutely Ridiculous: can you beat 5?

We can have 8 !!!
Green - normal refuse
Brown - Garden waste (paid for separately)
Blue bag - paper
Black bin - plastic and cardboard
Small green bin - kitchen waste
Small grey bin - kitchen caddy (to use in kitchen, tipped into kitchen waste bin)
Green crate - bottles and tins
The council will also provide another bin for nappies if wanted.
Is this a record?

i can't compete on numbers (East Dorset) as we only have a black bag for rubbish collected weekly and a green box (glass, PET bottles and tins) and a green bag for paper both of which are collected fortnightly - but the extra one we have is a small bag, which goes into the green box, for batteries

Chelmsford has:
black bin for non-recyclable
brown bin for garden waste
green crate / box for glass, tins, clothing, shoes, foil, etc
bag for paper
another bag for card
small buckert for compostable waste (and emptied into the compost bin(s) as appropriate)
