Here's some aircraft engines that will bring you out in goosebumps!

Dunno I've always preferred the sound of a good turbine rather than a piston.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

back in the good old days.
Wethersfield Air base, was USSAF at that time, the last of their open days
A Vulcan took off on full power and did a near vertical climb

Ahhh the Vulcan. I'm still fascinated by that now. It looked so ahead of its time and yet it vanished so quickly!

Just got off a brand new Airbus 330 in North Carolina.  Great plane, comfortable and quiet Smiley

I can beat that big time; I was at a dog show just outside Stafford many years ago. There was an air show nearby.
The "star of the show" at the air display approached the airfield flying very low over the dog show and then did it's star turn:
6 OIympus jets on full reheat, vertical climb, with the exhausts all pointing back at us.
Yes, it was the Vulcan flying testbed with the Concorde nacelle under the bomb bay. Absolutely the NOISIEST thing I have ever heard.
The dog show had to be abandoned.  Sad

Might have even been that one, all though I think the Wethersfield show ended before that.
I do know that it curled the recently tarmacked runway at the end

I see your Vulcan and raise you by the English Electric Lightning

Re: A380 - listen to those engines!

I bid one Concorde

I saw them take off a few times from Heathrow, the best was on a winter's evening where you could see the full reheat jet plumes extending behind the craft.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: A380 - listen to those engines!

I've been just beyond the end of the runway a few times at Heathrow with Concorde taking off over me. The Vulcan testbed was way louder.  Crazy
I think the Lightning still holds a significant "climb to altitude" record - amazing craft!

Another nice one. Spectacular from about 30 seconds in.

Re: A380 - listen to those engines!

Not sure it is a real aircraft, it is a little on the small side. YT video @

It maybe that it is a sclae model of a real aircraft but not one I recognise.
On our way driving into Heathrow I would say to SWMBO while pointing towards the Concorde model on the roundabout "It is smaller than you imagine isn't it?" You can all do the same about the A380 there now.
