A very specific theft

I was just reading today's Police Safer Neighbourhood Team report for my area on Facebook and was surprised to see this incident.

Re: A very specific theft

I don't see why - I assume that the exhaust system was being carried in the van not attached to it  Grin

Re: A very specific theft

When main dealers charge anything up to £1000 for a complete original equipment exhaust systems, I'm surprised there's not more of it. Who's actually doing the day-light robbery?
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: A very specific theft

The catalytic converter section is the main prize I would suspect.

Re: A very specific theft

Isn't this now a common crime with mainly commercial vehicles being targeted because of the ground clearance.

True but  who could they sell it to ?
Might be of some use to someone with the same type of vehicle but doubt few people would be interested unless it looked new and even then they are committing a crime by buying it.
The idea of flogging it to a scrap dealer due to the rare metal it contains is likely to be a non starter due to the recent changes made which require Scrap dealers to keep accurate records of what they buy and from whom they buy, I suspect  these changes were introduced following the theft of metal drain covers and metal memorial plaques.

The catalytic converter section...

This is a common target of theft from Mercedes vans. The thieves will often be stealing to order. The units are relatively transportable and are not easily traced while having a high intrinsic value.
The other trick is to steal diesel fuel by punching a hole in the fuel tank and draining it. The victim is left with a considerable repair bill for scarce parts.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.
