A (very) odd question about the weather!

It was very hot yesterday as we all know and the Weather boffins said it would be cooler today and it is, but why is that? Considering the Sun is the same temperature and distance away it was yesterday why is is cooler! Here there are no clouds in the sky so the reduction in heat can’t be down to obstruction / absorption. There is more wind than yesterday but if the wind is ‘extracting’ the heat then why isn’t it warm! I did say it was an odd question.

The wind is bringing colder air from the East.

Re: A (very) odd question about the weather!

My weather station is currently showing this: Temperature 14 degrees Wind Chill 13.9 degrees Apparent temperature 12 degrees I've yet to discover precisely how the 'Apparent temperature' is calculated. Something for me to investigate while the forum is fixed.

OK @Browni that makes sense, and makes me feel stupid for asking in the first place! So the wind must be much colder than yesterdays thus extracting the heat but not to a degree that would make the wind temperature increase to a noticeable degree (no pun intended).

Just given my own "weather station" wall barometer a tap and yep, it tells me it's not raining which I was able to confirm by looking out of the window. Wink

@Browni is spot on of course as it's those beastly polar easterlies swinging round below a rising jet stream that gives us those cold snaps.

A quick glance at this showed me the direction of the prevailing wind.

@Strat I'm betting that "Apparent temperature" partially depends on relative humidity.

Temperature, wind, Relative Humidity and a chunky formula apparently.

@VileReynard  is on right track apparent temperature

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Re: A (very) odd question about the weather!

This page lists "Feels like: ... "; perhaps that is the same as apparent temperature.
