A long time ago, in a far off land, times were hard, and an old man and his grandson were taking their donkey to sell at the market. The old man walked, with the boy on the donkey.
As they passed through a village on the way, they heard people say that it was a shame that the boy rode while the old man walked. Thinking they might have a point, they swapped places and continued on their journey.
After a while they began to overhear comments that the boy shouldn't have to walk while the man was riding the donkey, so they decided to both walk.
As they entered the town, onlookers were whispering about the foolish man and boy walking when they had a donkey to ride, so they both started to ride on the donkey.
Approaching the market, they heard people saying that the poor donkey looked so tired and overloaded, so they decided to carry the donkey the rest of the way. As they crossed a bridge, they lost their grip, and the donkey fell into the river and drowned.
So remember – if you try to please all of the people all of the time – you may as well kiss your ass goodbye.
Happy New Year!
