Someone should probably ask why Lloyd's banking customers in the first place? A data breach?

Re: A small number of our customers have received phone calls from companies offerin

I strongly suspect some of the software installed on the customers machines by the fraudsters allows them to keylog or similar activity which then could breach the login security of the Lloyds customer.
One of my clients had a rootkit virus on their machine and every time she went to do online banking, extra fields appeared for things like passwords and pin numbers ......
By pre-emptively warning customers in this way, banks can warn their customers about this and also warn other customers whose machines may have already been compromised.

Hardly pre-emptive given that this scam has been around for several years!
