A Tall Story

The London skyline is now dominated by the tallest building in the UK and when it is complete next year it will be the tallest in Europe until it is overtaken by The Heritage Plaza in Paris in 2016.
The Shard will be 1016 feet high on completion and The Heritage Plaza is scheduled to reach 1050 feet.
The Shard will contain a luxury hotel, offices and some apartments each selling at £10m.  There is also a viewing gallery with all-round views up to 40 miles.
The Shard
It forms a very impressive sight to anyone near the City.

Last year Andrew Marr climbed the structure for the BBC.

Re: A Tall Story

Funny thing is, sometimes I go to the McDonalds by London Bridge in the morning (which is right opposite The Shard).
When I do, all I see is the builders in there.
They're going to lose a fair amount of business when that is completed.

Re: A Tall Story

I was recently watching a program about this building complete with wind turbines in Bahrain.
Absolutely amazing engineering. Shocked

Re: A Tall Story

I saw part of that and thought it ironic that they had to stop lifting the turbines to their final resting place until he wind had died down!

Re: A Tall Story

I remember going to the top of the World Trade Centre.  The lifts were so fast the air pressure changed as you went up.  There was a gauge inside so you could see it.  Fantastic views across NY Smiley

Re: A Tall Story

The worst part of the New York World Trade Centre buildings was going to the public top floor observation area and looking down on helicopters flying below you. I also worked in those buildings on occasion, they always felt dark and gloomy inside.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.
