  here is the result

WINDOWS 11 APP.png

Obviously....

Microsoft do not want LINUX users to change over to Windows 11.....

Re: A New Version Of Windows?

@shutter

To be fair to Microsoft this tool is designed to test if the computer can be updated from Windows 10 to 11.

@Champnet

When I ran the tool it came back with:

tpm1.png

I then entered my Asus Z390-P UEFI BIOS and went to Advanced/PCH-FW Configuration/Intel Platform Trust Technology and changed it to Enabled.

I now get:

tpm2.jpg

I believe that it's called fPTM on AMD systems.

I understand that this is a firmware change in the BIOS and can lock you out of files that use it for encryption (like Bit Locker), if the BIOS chip fails.

Not that I shall bother with trying the upgrade until there's been several updates, I'm not that brave..

Re: A New Version Of Windows?

@Baldrick1 , quick check on my HP box says :

HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012.  Your computer was released in 2009/2010.

Re: A New Version Of Windows?

@Baldrick1  I was being a bit facetious with my post....  however... you would think that Microsoft, would take into account "other O.S. Users, including MAC and other variants". when offering their "NEW windows".

(Even if, as we all know..  95% of "other O.S. users would not be interested...   Cheesy  or daft enough to be taken in by it all ) Grin

Re: A New Version Of Windows?

@Browni  Interesting to note the "get out" clause in red on that  pic ! ! !... Shocked

Judging by all the "current requirements"   and that "get out"  clause...by the time this NEW windows comes to life, would not surprise me that a few million people will HAVE TO buy a NEW Computer/laptop if they want to continue working with windows.

Crafty way of increasing revenue by the back door, methinks...Sad

Re: A New Version Of Windows?

I have just checked that I do not have TPM (run tpm.msc) so that is that.

I thought that W10 was going to be upgraded indefinitely but apparently it will expire in 2025.

If I am being honest I don't evewn want W10. I don't want information shared across all my devices and uploaded to the cloud. I don't want "apps" giving me useless information. I just want a simple internet connection, file manager and ability to run programs of my choice.

I am sure I still have XP on a hard drive sonewhere.......!  Undecided

Re: A New Version Of Windows?

@TeeGee  Have a go with Linux ...... Try ZORIN15 CORE...... you can still run many windows type programs with no extra "command line" ( aka Terminal) work... just download .... click the .exe file... and ZORIN15 CORE does the rest....    Just like WIndows. ( to paraphrase a famous VW advert from a few years ago ! ! )

Oh... Forgot to mention.... it is FREE  !  ..... and you can move the HDD/SSD to another computer/laptop and it will still work on the new machine....  ( Unlike Windows ! ! )

Here`s the linky.....      https://zorinos.com/download/

Scroll down past the first laptop  (which is the Paid version)  to the next laptop.. which is FREE ! ...

Download it.... burn it to a usb stick... boot up to USB... try it ...   if you like it.... then you can install it properly from the USB stick.

Re: A New Version Of Windows?

@TeeGee  If you want a no frills version look for Windows LTSC, the enterprise version of Windows 10.

I've a couple of installs running on VMs. Licenses probably available on EBay...

Re: A New Version Of Windows?

Thanks for suggestons. Already have Linux Mint and happy to use W7 for Photoshop and Word etc. Wil be patient and see how it all works out. I get a feeling mass market lowest common denominator is coming into play here!
