We could still have the Devo-Max Cheesy and the pay that goes with it.

....and the presents for kids and the family gatherings that only happen at Christmas, birthdays and funerals and the fights in the shops for last minute gifts.......

Re: A New Referendum And Its UK Wide

Every two years would suit me along with bans on Christmas adverts and music until December the 1st.
It seems to me that each year is just another to outdo the last in terms of money spent and to out do each other in terms of gifts and cards.
The true meaning seems to be totally lost these days with even the TV schedules failing to reflect on it.

I'm all for banning the commercial festival as that's often a miserable affair.
The religious one though is usually a happy time full of hope.

that goes for governments trying to outspend out do each other at New Years Eve too.....
Imagine what could be done in the "third world" with all the money spent on celebratory firework displays designed to "show off" to other countries .....  Angry

Yes lets show off to EU accountants that we are so wealthy we can burn money in a huge firework display.
Then they can adjust the EU budget surcharge bill upwards.

I love the New Year fireworks in London. They're fantastic and give a feelgood factor to all concerned Smiley Smiley

And during the advert break, you will see children who have not got access to clean water... or three meals a week... let alone three per day...  and similar "appeals" to our heartstrings....

Re: A New Referendum And Its UK Wide

The UK foreign aid budget is £11Billion. I think we do our share. That figure does not include money raised by charities in the UK. I don't begrudge London spending a few pounds on fireworks for New Year.
