A Great Welcome Home!!

A great picture.  The 16 Air Assault Brigade return to Colchester from Afghanistan on Tuesday to a fantastic welcome from the public.

Yep that's a great welcome home, sadly I can't imagine that same reception in a lot of places in this country.

Re: A Great Welcome Home!!

We certainly don't have as much respect for our armed forces as we should and its very sad.
And of course it's not considered 'cool' to support the armed forces is it.
I'd like to see some of these anti-war protesters go out and face the bullets and bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan, I have very deep admiration for them as I know I wouldn't have the guts thats for sure.

So why do you have deep admiration for the anti war protesters?

I *think* he means he has admiration for the armed forces not the protesters!

I have no time for the anti war lobby, sure war should be avoided where possible but we should be behind the troops when they are deployed

Re: A Great Welcome Home!!

I don't see a total conflict between the 2 positions; politicians usually start wars, troops fight them.
Logically you can be anti-war but support the troops.
Lots of people in earlier wars were anti-war but served for example as medical staff often in positions of great personal danger.

Thank goodness a lot of us are behind our Servicemen. I particularly admire the example of the people of Wootton Bassett . Whenever those who have died are repatriated through the small town, it comes to a standstill and the cortege is thoroughly honored:

@Mark
That was my comment not Chilly's. His edit was to correct my quote.
