9/11 Revisited

Just watched a remarkable documentary on C4, ' 9/11: Phone Calls From the Towers'.  It commemorated the eighth anniversary this week of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.  It explored telephone calls made by people trapped in the Towers and how their families came to terms with their loss through the calls, many heard for the first time.
A second programme tomorrow night shows some footage taken by New Yorkers of the disaster.  A must for anybody interested in modern history.

Re: 9/11 Revisited

Seems to me that personal grief should be kept personal, not broadcast to the whole world.

I know what you mean but some people get closure by expressing their grief publicly.

And some people get money by expressing their grief publicly.

Re: 9/11 Revisited

As far as I know none of the people in the documentary got paid.  There's a follow up on C4 tonight and I can't imagine any of those people got paid either - a lot of them didn't survive.

Re: 9/11 Revisited

I tend to get rather bored with these stories about the attack on the twin towers. As others have said it was one of the first attacks on the USA so gets a lot of coverage.
We don't keep going on about all the people who were killed in Europe both by the Germans, and the British and US bombers on raids to our cities, and of course the nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
And all the innocent civilians killed in Bagdad, Saigon  etc etc

That's why we have an 'off'' switch on the TV so we can decide not to watch it.  I find it fascinating particularly as I was in the US on the day and saw the site a few days after.

Re: 9/11 Revisited

Indeed - I wasn't saying others should not watch. I find it a bit goolish though !.
Luckily I was in a remote spot away from TV and radio in the depths of the English countryside on the day and didn't find out about it until 2 days later, so I was spared the news hype.

Re: 9/11 Revisited

I thought it was rather clever of the terrorists to spot such a gaping hole in security.
I wonder if they were able to do the engineering calculations to predict the failure modes?
