8 eggs please

My fridge door has spaces for 8 eggs so why can't I buy a pack of 8 eggs...
or conversely why doesn't my fridge door have 6 spaces or twelve to match egg packaging.
I do have bigger problems in life but this bugs me Wink

Re: 8 eggs please

For the same reason that hot dogs come in packs of 10, but hot dog buns only come in packs of 8 I think.

You buy ½ dozen eggs and put them in the fridge. Not wanting to run out, you buy another ½ dozen when there are one or two left in the fridge.
You're glad now that you have eight spaces instead of only six.

Re: 8 eggs please

Not really an answer to your question but do eggs really need to be in a fridge ?
I Know zero about cooking but seem to recall that some recipes actually state that eggs should be at room temperature prior to use.

Re: 8 eggs please

Eggs will last longer in the fridge, provided you don't put them in the door. The cold does make them last, but constant changes in temperature can make them go off quicker. They should be kept nearer the back of the fridge, where the temperature is more constant. For cooking, its better to use room temperature eggs, so get them out in good time.

Re: 8 eggs please

My fridge has space for 12 eggs but in a shelf not in the door.  However, I don't keep my eggs in the fridge.

Re: 8 eggs please

Checking Asda's website I see that its "White hot dog rolls " come in packs of 6. Hot dogs come in packs of 48,12 and 8 but not (as far as I can see) 10.

That was my thinking too. To be honest though, we always chuck em in the fridge in their egg boxes and don't worry about the egg holders.

Re: 8 eggs please

You can buy 10 eggs in a pack... your fridge caters for two people`s requirements... cos... you have run out of eggs.... you go and buy 10  (cos you know your fridge will only take Cool then come home and make two egg butties, after putting the shopping away, and you have 8 eggs in your fridge !  Roll eyes  next time you go out, you have already had two more egg butties, and  a couple for breakfast...  and now you can buy six eggs...  now you have 8 eggs in the fridge again... you can make an omelette, and start the process over again  Grin
