50 Years Ago this Month

50 years ago this month, on 22nd November, President John F Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas.
It is said that everybody remembers where they were when they heard the news.
Kennedy was an inspirational leader, perhaps the first world leader that everyone could relate to.
He was also a great orator remembered most for his Inaugural Speech and the one he made in Berlin.
In today’s Mail on Sunday there is an article well worth reading about his last few minutes when he was fighting for his life in Parkland Memorial Hospital told by two of the doctors who fought to save him.

I Have often tried to guess what year something happened when I was younger, when I come to check it I am usually years out.

Re: 50 Years Ago this Month

I was nine years old and in Waterloo Hospital Liverpool and the news came on the ward TV.
BTW, the other thing I remember was the day after, Saturday 23 November 1963, was the first episode of Doctor Who.

Funny you should mention that, they're doing the 50th anniversary thing at Cineworld on the 23rd of this month, which oddly enough, falls on a Saturday.

I hope the JFK commemorations give plenty of airplay to one of my favourite pieces of music by Yorkshire band - Saxon !

Re: 50 Years Ago this Month

@purleigh, not heard this song before but liked it.
JFK, unlike his father, was a very good friend of the UK.  It's even possible the 'special relationship' was started at this time.  He and our PM, Harold McMillan, got on extremely well together both diplomatically and personally.
