The whole concept is a bit like steam powered TV's.  Possible, but who wants one?

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Thank goodness.

Now maybe film-makers and TV program makers can get back to putting the money back into content rather gimmicks.

I have to see a '3D' that could hold my interest from the 70's through to recent rubbish like Avatar.

Re: 3D TV is dead.... Official ! !

I have watched films at the cinema in 3D but it was a somewhat stressful experience and much prefer 2D.

Interestingly a couple of times when the cinema was showing a film in 3D in one screen and in 2D in another screen.

The 2D screen was fully booked but with quite a few seats available in the 3D screen.

That's good news.

3D makes me sick.

I suffer from motion sickness, even sitting in the back of a car for long journeys is bad enough but 3D, after an hour or so that's enough for me.

Could be wrong but 2D IN 4K UHDR is the future........until something else comes along.

Perhaps these curved screen tv's are another thing that will not last......time will tell.

Re: 3D TV is dead.... Official ! !

Technology moves in mysterious ways:  Only a couple of decades ago it was thought that HD TV wouldn't catch on because the sets (25" screens or so) were so heavy that you needed two strong men to carry them, and medical programmes would be too graphic for the faint-hearted.  A few years ago BBC2 showed an old Tomorrow's World programme from the 70s or 80s where they had one of the then slimline CRT TVs, and speculated on how thin TVs could get.  They concluded that in the distant future it might even be possible to make TVs so thin that you could hang them on the wall.  Well, the future has arrived; many (perhaps most) living rooms now have a TV hanging on the wall, and it's a lot larger than 25" in most cases.

I remember when a 21" screen was considered enormousWink

23" was standard when we first got B&W TV back in the 60s, 25" was considered 'posh'.

One of those tech teasers that never have time to get off the ground and fly as nobody was really that interested. Anybody remember those digital video discs back in the 80s? They never flew off the shelves either.

I seem to recall Betamax was a superior format to VHS.

We don't always make the right choice.

Yes I am aware that the industry at the time pressured us into a certain direction but the ultimate choice was ours.

Re: 3D TV is dead.... Official ! !

Betamax was better - their video cameras certainly were but then that I guess was the power of Sony and that was what irritated so many people at the time. An urban myth? Not if my memory serves.
