£300,000 a week for kicking a ball around!

Wayne Rooney: Man Utd striker agrees new £300k per week deal
Obscene money, in my opinion.
No wonder so many of these 'stars' think they are above the law and anyone else.
Quote
Rooney joined United from Everton in August 2004 and is only 42 goals shy of passing Bobby Charlton's record total of 249 for United.

He's got a long way to go before he reaches the gentleman-ship of the likes of Bobby Charlton .

Your post title is a little misleading...... you forgot to add the word  "occasionally"
He only kicks the ball when he is "in possession"... the rest of the time, he is just running about trying to keep warm....  Roll eyes

I assume the club are happy to pay him the money and the fans won't object if he scores goals Smiley

Cool And then there's all of the merchanidising, endorsements, PR... etc, etc.Poor lad.
So now compare and contrast Rooney to those guys at WHATSAPP Incorporated. Untill the news broke on Wednesday, I had not heard of the WhatsApp application. In fact, no-one I know had ever heard of it. But it seems junior sugar mountain went all Flappy Bird at the prospect of gobbling it's billion man army of  users; people who have never heard of Instant Messaging no doubt? Anyways, five years ago this Silicon Valley startup did not exist. Now it earns it's founders $16billion. That's akin to £50 million a week, or 150 times more than our greatest sporting asset, Wayne. And let's face it, unlike those over achieving geeks, Wayne can kick a football.

Re: £300,000 a week for kicking a ball around!

They are all paid way to much
For 1 year of Rooney's wages including the interest
How many nurses / doctors / police wages can it equate to
Anyone can kick a bag of wind around a pitch, however it should never be constituted to a full time job
What ever happened to playing for the love of the sport & not for the greed ?Huh
How many people are struggling actually working a full 8 - 12 hours a day for a mere pittance in comparison
Until that balance I wont be supporting the overrated bag of wind kickers
Also look at the examples they are setting to our kids when the hug n kiss on the pitch, wear the O/H Undies et al (no prizes for guessing what happens in the shower room) ewww

A touch of envy there I think. They wouldn't get paid that amount if the public didn't support them.

So if you were offered £300K you'd turn it down would you?

Re: £300,000 a week for kicking a ball around!

It would depend the reason(s) why I was offered £300k
&
If if it meant that it would go to employ people,
Rather than be wasted on
1 example:
Extra overpriced vehicles that may only be used once per year or just stored in a garage etc
