2010, so far, so bad

It all started on Christmas day when my motherboard broke down, that was the start of everything.  A quick (slow) trip to ebuyer and my new motherboard and CPU would eventually ship to me.  Alas, my problems didn't end then, I had a nice new 1TB external hard drive, a segate barracuda, I say had because I accidently pulled the cable which resulted in the external hard drive hitting the floor, and the hard drive no longer working.  Luckily it's still under warranty, until they check it out then I'm guessing it'll no longer be a valid warranty, shame that as they already sent out the replacement Cheesy
Then, a couple of days ago another wire, this time it was my iPhones USB cable that got hit by my foot, the iPhone survived, the cable is a no-no, luckily no damage to the USB port on my case.
Yesterday I decided to upgrade my router though, well I decided a while ago but couldn't get a cisco 877w for cheap so went for a pretty decent one, a Buffalo Wireless-N Nfiniti, I don't have anything which can use wireless N, and won't be upgrading to ADSL2 when it becomes available, but I digress.  My current router is a BT1800G, and today it started to spontaneously reboot itself, it just knew I was replacing it so wanted to make my life a misery by forcing the exchange to drop my connection speed from 6500 to 1k, oddly that never happened, I'm currently downloading at 740KB/sec, but it wasn't easy.  I had to replace my BT today, and my Buffalo hasn't arrived yet, so I got my trusty DG834G out and remembered that I'd fiddled around and stuck OpenWRT on it, which is all well and good, except OpenWRT doesn't support the ADSL side of the router, so I had to reflash it.  There was no way to do that via the router so I had to use netgears own software to do that.
Never simple is it, the software I needed to flash the router back to "standard" doesn't work at *all* on Windows 7, it requires Windows XP, which I don't have installed anywhere.  OpenSUSE yes, Windows 7, Yes, OSX even, but no Windows XP.  Queue installing Windows XP on my laptop just to run one programme, arghhh!!
So I'm wondering what will break next, my netgear though is doing a fantastic job, the speeds are amazingly quick, I can actually browse the internet while downloading, something the BT was unable to do.  But this year, my luck has been terrible in relation to breaking things, my mouse is also broke, well, the left mouse button is broke which I think is a switch, but that doesn't count.
Come back 2009, all is forgiven  Crazy

Re: 2010, so far, so bad

and I thought 2009 was bad.
Last year I lost a close relative, smashed up car, the SO lost a close relative, everyone else I know seemed to loose something or someone too.
So far (I hope I don't regret saying this) 2010 hasn't been too bad although the car was officially written off today.

Re: 2010, so far, so bad

In continuation of why 2010 is so far "the worst year ever" my father is in hospital after having a small heart attack, and a close friend who recently beat lung cancer had a brain scan and they found three tumours there, aggressive ones so they are being nuked.
I'm going to guess my bad luck will continue and Gordon Brown will win the next election! Tongue

Surely he can't win again.. not after stating he won't go and will stand for the next election! We've all had enough of these sharks!

Stranger things have happened, things like G W Bush getting elected, not once, but twice....  It could be that the Conservatives manage to gain ground but so do the Lib Dems, Labour lose ground but the Lib Dem's also take ground from the Conservatives leaving Brown with a 1 seat majority and stays as PM, goodness, a dystopia future.

An even more dystopian future!  The sort of future where we would look back and read 1984 and think "wow, I so wish we had the same freedoms and civil liberties they enjoyed in that book"

Re: 2010, so far, so bad

It's going to be an interesting year, Labour are aiming for the middle classes and trying to show that the middle class would be worse off under Conservative so will try to bribe the middle classes with "if elected we'll do this that and the other to make you better off!" so it could so easily be that Labour is re-elected.  I'm trying to think of where I'll move to if they win, I'm thinking, Iraq, Afganistan, China, you know, places where the government isn't as corrupt or oppressive as Labour is.

What a laugh.  They've spent the past 12 years persecuting the middle classes and now there's an election looming they want to embrace us Angry
Brown has always hated the middle classes and always will.

The difference between Britian and ZImbabwe  is that the people in Britain will still be able to change their government when they finally wake up to the damage that their folly in voting for socialists has done.
