12 New Replica Spitfires

Flying instructor wants to build 12 new Replica Spitfires to mark 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain
The first one of the Supermarine Mk 26B Spitfires has now been completed and is ten days away from its maiden flight
When finished, each plane will weigh 810 kg and will be a 90 per cent scale version of an original three-tonne Spitfire

Re: 12 New Replica Spitfires

surprised there building them out of metal, would of been cheaper to use plastics and fibre glass for the body kit not to mention weighed less and thus required a smaller engine to perform the same job making them greener ....

Re: 12 New Replica Spitfires

They won't be Spitfires without that distinctive engine roar.

Re: 12 New Replica Spitfires

I agree about the engine sound.
But why only 90% scale?

But why only 90% scale?

Maybe it's the same as with a car mod?
Built on an existing chassis / air frame (design)?

Re: 12 New Replica Spitfires

more likely so it comes in under the cheaper licencing regulations, if it was full scale it would have to comply with higher grade CAA as a new airframe and that would cost significantly more to create.
