10pm !

10pm FAIL...

So, they shut Pubs & Bars at 10pm....

And what do the Public (especially young ones) do

They buy loads of alcoholic drinks to drink back at home, or student accommodation.

In large groups.... with NO social distancing....we're having a Parteeeeeeeee

A Policy not really thought through !

Re: 10pm !

What people seem unable to grasp that it's not about totally stopping the spread, which is impossible, but managing probability.

If you can introduce measures that limits exposure by say half then you half the probability of coming into contact with an infected person. For example if you spend half your time at work and the other half socialising then by stopping socialising but still going to work you are halving the chance of becoming infected and the country doesn't go bankrupt. Why can't people understand this? Is it that hard?

As for the majority of students, whatever common sense measures are in place they are going to mix. I say that we should encourage it but keep the infected in place and not let them take their bugs home. The vast majority will survive and help build up the herd immunity, which should help the rest of society.

I do however sympathise with what I suspect is a small proportion of students who go to university to learn skills necessary to follow a nationally useful career, maybe they could be isolated in some way from those who go to university just for 'the experience '.

Re: 10pm !

I don't personally see the whole point of the 10pm law.

Another one, like the sugar tax law.

The PC Brigade will say "Oh well we tax it because it is bad for you and discourage you from taking too much of it".
(Apart from the fact if you're diabetic then it is good for you, if your blood sugar level gets low) 🤒

I feel sorry for the people who have it, epilepsy is bad enough for me.

Sorry back on topic to the PC Bridage and 10pm:

All it will encourage people to do is go out sooner, and get drunk quicker - how it is going to stop the spread is beyond me.

Been years since I went to a late night bar or a club (getting a bit old for that now 🙄) but if they have to close early they'll just lose takings, and possibly go belly up. Then the subsequent loss of rent to the premsis owner, stock, VAT returns and business rates will just mean council tax will go up. Even for people who don't go out and drink anymore.

But if they get drunk quicker they will be socialising for a shorter time.

Apart from this from my experience not every-one goes out in the evening to get drunk, many are creatures of habit and go out at the same time, they will be out mixing with others for a shorter time and drink less rather than get drunk quicker and act irresponsibly, which you appear to agree with:

... but if they have to close early they'll just lose takings...

As I keep banging on about, these rules are about reducing the probability of people being exposed to an infected person, not a sure fire way of stopping it in its tracks. I would hope that those that want to go out for a quiet and safe as practicable evening drink avoid pubs popular with the early doors drunks and let them get on with catching each others bugs.

Re: 10pm !

One of our local pubs are opening earlier to serve breakfasts as a way of hoping to retain their level of takings.

Re: 10pm !

This is what businesses have to do now, either adapt or fold. Instead most are just blaming everyone and everything then  expecting and demanding handouts.

Re: 10pm !

I cannot believe the number of people that seem to think this bug knows what time of day it is and are taking things to the wire before lockdown.

Not to say family or friends, just 'someone we know' who will be having folks over for a meal with the plan that "they will leave just before the lockdown takes efffect".

What the...

It's not a curfew guys, it's an attempt to slow down the spread.

Re: 10pm !

Last week Blackpool was the only place in Lancashire not on lockdown, this encouraged crowds of people to go there on the sunny weekend, many with no masks......of course it’s on lockdown now with cases rising daily....madness.

If we look at other countries few seem to have found a ideal solution....apart from China, who really do lock down anything and accept no protests or little opposition from the public, clearly we could not accept the strict methods they use but it appears effective.

A balance between health and financial consequences is a very difficult problem for any government to deal with as it’s damned if you do and damned if you don’t......a no win situation.

Re: 10pm !

Absolutely @gleneagles

Far better would be to shut pubs, clubs and restaurants completely but as you say, financial consequences and for both owner and employee. We are told of course it's because "freedom loving British" would not stand for it.

Really?

I'm not so sure about that.

PS. Ironically (and this is true) those same people mentioned above actually had a weekend away planned...in Blackpool even though at the time Lancashire was going into that lockdown - which only goes to show the mindset of some.

I'm sure Fforest Gump had words for it.

Re: 10pm !

That's the thing.

They say work from home, if you can. Not all jobs are as simple as that.

If you work in IT then Yes.

However:

If you're a builder, then something won't construct itself or demolish itself on a computer.
If you work in a shop, then you can't serve people from home.

I could go on, (as I usually do).

You don't exactly need a Biology degree to work out the virus is not going to say "Oh dear last orders are sooner now, I'd better stop spreading".

I give up with some people.

Re: 10pm !

It was obvious this was going to happen, what did they expect, releasing all those drinkers out onto the streets at the same time !

I would have thought they expected people to use a little common sense.
