The one and only

Sad news, Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-54761824

Lots of actors tried to follow his lead playing perhaps his most famous role of James Bond, but none of them really cut it for me. He really was the one and only.

That apart, does anybody remember him in the film Hell Drivers from 1957. Lots of other eventually well known actors in it such as Stanley Baker for example, but none of them went on to become as well known as this guy.

Re: 007 has gone to Heaven

Yep definitely.

60's Bond was a bit before my time so I didn't watch that.

Although when I first started using DVD's (everyone remembers that time!) one of my first DVD's was 'The Rock' and he was brilliant in that. Best actor (IMHO and all that).

@ Lægen us this half an hour before you piped up.  I'm not sure why you thought it needed repeating?

Absolutely devastated. Cry I was a massive fan of Bond as a kid.

Yes, he was a good Bond, maybe even the best, but I've never had much time for the man to be honest what with his views on and the allegations of physical violence against women.

@ffox

Because I never saw it.

Never one to repeat a post if I can help it, and why so sharp with your comment?

There really is no need y'know.

Re: The one and only

I can appreciate in the early bond years he was in a great role but for me it was always Roger Moore - the tech, the gadgets, the persona.. all were better imo.

But yes, it's sad that Connery has gone too. Although i wasn't quite as keen on his bond films he did get them off to a damn good start. Better than the current fella who i really can't get along with - along with Q division which might as well hand out boxes of matches for gadgets these days.

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: The one and only

Playing James Bond is what he'll be best remembered for, but another one that sticks in my mind and always worth another viewing when it pops up on television is 'The Man Who Would Be King' with  Michael Caine and Saeed Jaffrey.
