i5 7600K or i7 7700K ?

Im building a new gaming rig, i know the i5 7600K is a great cpu .... but im wondering if i should get the i7 7700K as i might get more gaming life from it ? ( higher clock speed )

Ive seen many reviews and both cpu`s are pretty kick [-Censored-] from what im upgrading from...... but i just dont know which one is going to be best for gaming for the next 5+ years...

Im drawn to the i7 ..... but i see more gamers using i5`s......... 

Which cpu would you choose for gaming ?

Given that the i7 is about £100 dearer I wouldn't get it

The advantage of the i7 is hyper threading which only a few games use effectively

The real limit for a gaming rig will be the GPU

I have a gtx 970 card atm.... but in the future i will upgrade that too. So im wondering if the i7 will be better for games coming out in the next couple of years.

I do not do games but to me there is no competition here. I have 4 machines that use i7 processors to do mathematical models on and without a shadow of doubt the i7 leaves everything in the dust. But as Oldjim says the real bottleneck is the GPU but if you intend to upgrade later then all the better. Having said that with the proliferation of multicore and hyper threading CPUs it won't be long until the game developers make better use of them so the upgrade won't be wasted and could see you playing well in to the future.

Of course the other thing is that the Kaby Lake CPU will only work with Windows 10 but you already knew that

There is usually a hockey stick of price vs performance on CPUs.   There is a point when they get far too expensive for the benefit!

A quick heads up with respect to kabylake win 10 restrictions

It more a case of the few skylake/kabylake systems I have run across and tried to install Win7/8 on have been illegally & deliberately hobbled -

• Booting from cold to desktop on a Z170/skylate system took 3-4x longer compared to the previous gen (Z97/77)(45-60s versus 15-20)
• Trying to get a Kaybelake based Acer labtop dual boot linux/Win8.1 refused to work until the hidden legacy mode was enabled. And even then once into Win8.1 I found there was no driver support for the onboard HD620 GPU, so as the laptop came with an nVidia GTX 950 I tried disabling the intel but no joy. And because the intel 2D was forced to work in tandem with the nVidia 3D, I was not able to get windows to display correctly in 2D.

I really don't give a **** for iGPU's because thus far they have had rubbish perf. What I wont stand for is not having GFX driver support for Win7/8, which is what intel are doing.
