I play gta 4 alot with friends and in the middle of playing i seem to automatically disconnect from the game quite alot. I only need to be in the game for 5 minutes before disconnecting from games for windows live. I have followed all he instructions microsoft gave me such as opening the correct ports. Im really at a loss and im wondering if anyone else has had the same problem or if it is a plusnet thing. I have allowed gfwl through firewall and i also stay connected to all other internet activities when gfwl disconnects.

I play GFWL occasionally with Dirt 3 and before that F1 2010, I have played for hours at a time on both and I have never been disconnected. I also havent done anything special with my ports. My mate did have all his stats wiped a few months back on DIRT 3 through GFWL, but that is the only problem that I know of.
Have you checked your router stats to see if the router is resetting at the same time ?

Last week I was playing BF3 and I was the same, kept getting disconnected, and last night I couldn't join a server for ages, it just kept saying disconnected from server, but I just put that down to flaky EA as my router stats showed no disconnects.
What platform are you playing GTA on ? is it wired or wireless ?

You could try disabling Upnp, googling it some others with the same or similar problem say disabling Upnp makes the port mapping go away, or not show up in thier logs. Or maybe do a factory reset of the router and get everything back to scratch and start from there. Or better yet, if you go to the main plusnet page and open up a fault, they will then test your line to see how it is performing.

I had a Thomson router (from PN) and turning Upnp off made a huge difference, my ping used to go to 999 with Upnp on, but with my Belkin, I can't really see any difference if I have it on or off, at the moment it is off.
Do you have any line stats, like sync speed and noise margin in your router, heres mine but it will be different for your router.
Downstream Upstream
Data rate(Kbps) 11480 1075
Noise Margin 5 6
Output power(dBm) 0 20
Attenuation(dB) 30 17
I would try Upnp off as it is not going to hurt anything, but also go and fill out a fault on the main page, then this will find out if your line is stable to have interleaving off.

Since interleaving was removed you've had a few disconnections:
