hi i was wondering if it is possible to lower my ping times im currently
getting on average between 30ms and 42 ms dependant on time of day 30ms
during the evening i only really use the internet for online gaming and it
just does not feel right there is a slight delay sometimes not on every
game but on most i live 280 metres from the exchange and am on an 8mb
package. To be honest i thought id have a really good connect because of
this but it seems i was getting better on pipex's 2mb package wirless in
my old house which was a few miles from the local exchange. Im hardwired
from the master socket having already removed the faceplate and there is
only ever one device connected at a time i have brought a new ethernet
cable and also swapped the router i was sent by yourselves for a netgear
dg834g v3 and im still having the same problem i ask about lowering ping
rates because i know of a sky customer who's ping average was 29ms and
after calling sky they lowered it to 2ms average but i dont know if thats
because they use adsl2 lines. My download speeds are just over 6mb any help
would greatly be appreciated.
p.s this was my ticket to pn no reply as yet so just cut and pasted it and maybe someone here can help.thanx.

Quote after calling sky they lowered it to 2ms average
are you sure about that if thats true sky must have there gateways in your green cab or at the exchange ;D.
you will more likely see between 10-20ms depending how far from london ( where PNs gateways are located)
this tracert is from sheffield done on a wireless connected pc
Tracing route to bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.138]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 2 ms 1 ms 1 ms 10.0.0.1
2 16 ms 16 ms 17 ms lo0.plusnet.thn-ag2.plus.net [195.166.128.93]
3 17 ms 16 ms 16 ms vl604.thn-gw2.plus.net [84.92.4.170]
4 17 ms 16 ms 17 ms rt0.thdo.bbc.co.uk [212.58.239.25]
5 16 ms 16 ms 16 ms 212.58.238.149
6 16 ms 16 ms 16 ms virtual-vip.thdo.bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.138]
24/7 those are no average as they dnt vary that much ( cough) part for an hour on the adsl2+ trial
