about interleaving - stats included

so i asked plusnet support if my interleaving was off or not.  here's the reply i got:

Thanks for your query

According to the DLM (Dynamic Line Managment)  the interleaving is off (FAST) and this is causing the Sync rate to drop as the SNR is increasing, would you like us to switch this on or keep it as is?

the guy is asking of he should turn it on due to sync speed?
i'd rather have the lower ping but don;t know much about these stats.  anyone more in the know care to comment?
cheers Smiley

Re: about interleaving - stats included

can you grab your line stats from your router please http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php
i run fastpath on a 50db attention line with a 3000kbps profile, am the same i would rather run my line 500kbps lower to enable fastpath to run decent on my long line
below my stats for my adsl2 fastpath line, my line actualy runs 500kbps better than that but the 21cn dlm in its wizdom decided to band my sync rates so cant sync here than that at the moment

Re: about interleaving - stats included

hi man,
my attenuation is 52, my SN is 6.5
max synch 5,112
on speed test i get around 3.8 Mbps down / 0.36 Mbs up
i'm happy with those speeds, i just want to minimise my pings Smiley
if i ping bbc.co.uk i get averages of 37ms...is that good?

Re: about interleaving - stats included

Depends on which part of the country you reside in Max, if you live in the northern reaches of Scotland then I'd say it's pretty good but if you're just outside London then I'd say that you have interleaving on or there are other issues.

i'm on a mac...notice my ping is 64 bytes of data (not 32)...wonder if that makes a difference?

Re: about interleaving - stats included

just out of interest Max,
does www.pingtest.net offer any decent results (from a nearer server)?
What I'm not at all sure about is whether your conection has to travel from your locality down to the PlusNet physical network then back again.

Re: about interleaving - stats included

i get about 40-50ms on average but no servers show up in scotland.
overall i'm pretty happy however one weird thing i'm noticing is after 11.30pm or midnight my pings get quite erratic.
has anyone else experienced this?

Re: about interleaving - stats included

max are you on 21cn adsl2+ product?
if so you will find this to be your issue your getting after midnite till about 1-2am http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,80166.0.html
@walker. yes every ones traffic on PN has to travel across BTw's network then across the central's (20cn) / host links (21cn) to end up at the gateways in london http://www.plus.net/support/network_performance/broadband_packets_drop.shtml
where it will then make its way across the PN routing to find its way to the  destantion
there is a handy drawing of the layout of the telehouse sites in london to show what path your traffic takes some where but for life of me cant find it, i think jelv knows where it is am sure he will point you to it to give you a clear picture how traffic is routed

yes mate, i'm on adsl2+.  this is really bizarre, sort of like the opposite problem i had with orange when peak gaming was horrible. and everything sped up at midnight.
just for reference for the tech guys who may be reading:  i get solid 37ms ping to bbc.co.uk peak times, then after midnight it jumps all over the place.
would be nice if this could be sorted as i game allot into the wee hours, especially at weekends Smiley

Re: about interleaving - stats included

me to max. they have tried a few things to get it sorted and sent the results of anything they have tried to the vendor of the hardware ect.
there should be some more 21cn cappicty added this week which should improve things for abit.
p.s i play battlefield 1943 and dont notice the lag in that game much

You want the Our Network link at the bottom of every page on the members portal. From there you want the Technical Information link.
For an explanation of how ADSL (at least the 20CN version) works I suggest a look at Kitz's pages starting with http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/equip.htm
