Xbox 360 Upgrades And Subsequent Xbox Live Problem

My Xbox 360 Live Gold ID disappeared from the Xbox sign in page during the recent Xbox upgrades. I contacted Xbox support and they are trying to tell me it is a router problem and that I need to ensure certain ports are open on my router. I am using the standard Technicolor TG582n router supplied by Plusnet and which worked perfect with Xbox Live before the upgrades.
I have been into the router on the 192.168.1.254 page but can't see anywhere to open ports.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and, if so, how did you fix it?
Thanks for whatever advice anyone may have.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for getting in touch.
It is all sorted out now. The problem was caused by the Xbox Live upgrade rather than anything to do with Plusnet. Xbox live had lost my profile so it was just a matter of the Xbox people giving me instructions on how to download all the information that had been lost.
