World of warcraft...Stale?..or is it me?

Just a quick question for all you WoWers.  Is it me, or has World of warcraft become 'stale'? I started to lose interest at the Cata expansion, and now it feels like Blizzard are floundering, looking for something to revitalise it.
Pet battle - Pokemon!
Another 5 levels - yawn!!
Another Armor tier!
Oh the excitement never ends.  So what can they do to freshen it up? I have no idea, does anyone?

That is the joy of a old MMO, you remember the good days and want them back.  Same deal for AO/lotro for me, grass was a lot greener then.

Re: World of warcraft...Stale?..or is it me?

To be fair, I got bored during Cataclysm and stopped playing...
Just before Mists came out, most of my old guild mates spammed me with scrolls of resurrections - So,,, I thought i'd bite the bullet and at least accept one to get some free game time,
Got back into it and pre-ordered Mists, and I can say, that the questing is rather good there are lots of good story lines and I'm quite impressed with it.
Sure, they could have given more than 5 levels again, but if they did 10 levels, it'd take it to 95 and then what would they do for the magic 100, a 5 level expansion?
Perhaps they may be working on a 10 level expansion now, to provide a nice journey to the big level 100. But what you have to appreciate is, players won't want to be spending long amounts of time waiting to level up again, you can only do raids and stuff so many times before you get bored of the game. So they only have so long between releasing expansions to keep players interested.
After Mists was released, I've never seen Stormwind City so empty - It's nice that people are going about questing again instead of sat around doing nothing, logging in because they are forced to (because they're paying for it).
All in all, I don't think it has gone Stale, introducing another new class as well as a race has probably done the trick. When they introduced the Worgan, it was using the same old classes... Now that people have a new Class to play with (Monk) I think that has saved the game from going down the pan. People have something new to try.
Theres my 2 cents at least.

Re: World of warcraft...Stale?..or is it me?

I came back to the game last week and I'm really enjoying it, though the visuals are starting to look dated.
Previously I only played for 2 and a half years and was about as far away from hardcore as it is possible to be while still being logged in, as an example, I only got my first flying mount last night, which was fantastic. I think pet battles are great, they remind of the old turned based games I played when I was younger, even down to the 'battle' music.
I think the game endures because of the massive amount of content, art style, and refining that has gone on.

Re: World of warcraft...Stale?..or is it me?

Try Guild Wars 2, no subs fee and it's actually pretty fun.  I play on a US server and am getting no lag (my friends from other games are yanks so I play with them).  The questing is incidental, you run around and on the way you get a quest bubble pop up, complete that and you get a mail with money and a thanks, no running around to find an NPC to start a quest then going back to the NPC.  The quests can also start off a chain event, collect several blobs of weird looking gel, hand them in and the quest giver uses them and somehow manages to create a super blob which starts an Event (kill the super blob!), you kill the super blob but now the bad guys are taking advantage and attacking the lab so you have to fend them off.  Fend them off and now the lab boss would like you to escort him to another area to hand over his findings.  So you've had 1 quest (cash, XP and karma rewards) followed by 3 or 4 events (cash, XP and karma rewards) and you've now ended up in an area where a new quest blob has popped up....
The grinding doesn't feel like grinding, it feels like natural progression with your story quests eventually leading you out of that zone and in to your next levelling zone.  And because there is no subs fee you don't feel compelled to log in every day because you're paying for it, you can just go do other stuff like, umm, read about the game....
