What movement keys do you use?

WASD
ESDF
Arrows
Other (what are they)
WASD. I should try different ones, though - i'm killing these cause i use ASD and ZXC to play Capcom games like Street Fighter Alpha 3, and ASDF for all of the Neo Geo Games (King Of Fighters, Samurai Shodown).

Re: What movement keys do you use?

It depends on the kind of game I suppose. I mostly play on 360 so use the pad or on PC I play World of Warcraft which has custom configurations.
I have keys around the standard WASD mapped to various functions and that lets me play without using the mouse (I hate gaming with a mouse, it's just not right!)
When I was a kid it was QA ZX and space or QA OP and space but that was more a standard than by choice Cheesy

Re: What movement keys do you use?

I think I've lived a privileged life and only ever used joysticks/gamepads for movement. You must be mad for wanting to use a keyboard for games like beat'em ups or other games which need a stick or pad.  Smiley  My PC only gets used for FPS and RTS games though. When I do play the FPS games I do use WASD.

For Doom 3 i use a strange combination (so Chris says) of:
Arrow keys
Number pad (including all the + - del etc)
Can't be doing with all this wasd stuff. Doesn't work for me!

Re: What movement keys do you use?

hmm I use nearly every key on the keyboard for varying commands.
The main movement keys are
WSAD for Up, Down, Left, Right
Q = Lean left
E = Lean right
F = Open door/use item
SHIFT = Run
C = Crouch
SPACE = Jump
ALT = Walk Slowly
etc etc etc

Re: What movement keys do you use?

I use the numpad.
WADS = 8759
or I'll sometimes use 4+6 for strafe and then use 7+9 for leaning.
Crouch is 0
Jump is +
Reload is -
Then whatever else.
It started when I was playing MechWarrior 2 - I needed all the keys in front of me, not off to the right.
I also use the mouse in my left hand (though I am right handed).
Naturally,  games that don't allow you to re-configure the keys or bind the keypad can be a struggle.

Re: What movement keys do you use?

games that don't allow keybind  Angry  Angry
I hate using the default keys because they are always in daft places, for example one game I used to play had WSAD for movement but then TY for leaning around corners!!

Re: What movement keys do you use?

WASD. Old school (BBC B, those were the days (speccy 48k never really allowed key controls properly, thank god for kempston joystick interfaces and the old school competition pro's, they were awesome) would be Z X for left/right, ; . for up and down and <return> for fire, leaving shift and space free for other controls (rocket raid demanded a separate key for bombs... 2 fire buttons? how am I supposed to keep track of 2 different fire buttons?)
I miss those days, still play on the BBC emulator now and again.

Re: What movement keys do you use?

I'm with Orbrey. I had an Acorn Electron (still have, in the loft) so it was Z, X, :, ., Return, Space etc all the way for me.
Use Xbox 360 and Dreamcast now for games, so I don't need to worry about the finger mangling anymore. When I do hop onto Quake III (on Mac) I use the standard WASD but for some reason I like E for jump so I can use Space and Command/Apple for weapon switching. It's not great but I'm kinda used to single button mouses.
