Hi genkville,
Your ping is the length of time it takes a data packet to be sent to the server you are 'pinging' and come back again. Yes, the lower the better - if it's a 70 ping to a server in the US, I'd say that was pretty good. If it's a UK server I'd be expecting more like 20-40ms, so if a UK server you may have interleaving on your connection - this makes the connection more stable however it does increase ping times. We can remove it if you wish, depending on the status of your line (if it's a long line it's better to leave interleaving on as it stops a lot of dropping connection issues).
What's your ping like to bbc.co.uk?

i dont get it though because the game runs smoothly...most of the time anyway
could this have something to do with my pc been on at the same time?

go to command prompt if using windows and use the following commands below, this connection is now interleaved but on fastpath (intrleaving off) its was 18ms to bbc.co.uk, the following times are why using p2p so are not stable but 35ms is bout rite for this line on interleaving
if your using the PN thomson router the first hop ping times are allways high, it means nothing apart from the routers prioity being low at responding to icmp packet (pings)

Sorry that was one of those correct, but perfect useless answers!!!
