A big announcement about Gears of War is set to be made at the Spike TV Video Game Awards, according to a new teaser trailer featuring the creator of the third person shooter franchise, Epic Games' Cliff Bleszinski. In the teaser trailer, an ominous voice says: "Don't miss the Gears of War announcement that'll have everyone talking."
Right after that, Bleszinski, the creator of Gears of War and Epic Games' lead designer, reveals that "We'll be showing off some new Gears of War gameplay. It's gonna be awesome. You're gonna love it. It's not what you expected." This is definitely peculiar, especially considering some recent rumors that Gears of War might receive support for Microsoft's new Kinect motion detection peripheral. Gears of War is an Xbox 360 exclusive franchise, and has been published by Microsoft. As such, you can expect that the company might be spending a lot of money so that Epic Games will consider incorporating its newest device, the Kinect, into some sort of Gears of War experience, in order to lure in hardcore gamers. This rumor was quickly denied by Bleszinski a few weeks ago, saying only that Gears of War 3 won't support Kinect. This evidently left room for speculation about a custom Gears of War title that would cater to the unique capabilities of the Kinect. The peripheral, even if it sold a lot of units since its recent release, hasn't exactly managed to capture hardcore Xbox 360 owners, as its lineup of titles just including party games or titles specifically aimed at new, casual gamers. Microsoft did promise more hardcore Kinect experiences and games for next year, so perhaps Gears of War will be among them. All we can do is wait until December 11, when the Spike TV Video Game Awards will air. Until then, check out the teaser trailer below.
