TV or dedicated monitor for console gaming?

I'm just curious.
What do you use for console gaming, a TV or a dedicated monitor?
If you don't game on a console you don't have to reply.
I use the 40" TV for my PS3.
Windows 10 Firefox 109.0 (64-bit)

I have an A/V amp in the man-cave which routes Sky, Xbox 360 & PC to my 40" LED & 5.0 sound system Smiley

Re: TV or dedicated monitor for console gaming?

I use a monitor - got a Dell 29" Widescreen.
Have the PC plugged into the Mini Displayport socket, and the PS3 into HDMI.
Have sound coming out of my Hi-Fi next to them - for the PC I use a USB to Optical converter, and connected the output audio jacks to audio in for the HDMI.
So I switch the monitor and Hi-Fi inputs when I want to change. Not that I play the PS3 very often.

I managed to smuggle a Yamaha RX-V767 and a pair of 3 foot tall speakers into the house while the wife was at work yesterday, set it all up and she didn't notice there was anything different when she got home - result !

Call me thick if you like (I won't be offended) but what is the difference between a monitor with freeview built in and a TV?

Re: TV or dedicated monitor for console gaming?

A little disappointed with it actually - I was hoping to be blown away by it but it is what I'd class as "adequate". I also have an Arcam AVR-300 in the workshop which was going to make an appearance but it wasn't as easily hidden Wink
The downside of being an electronics engineer is you always find something you could improve on and end up rebuilding stuff from scratch. At some point I'll build a system I'm happy with (from scratch !) but in the meantime the 767 (which cost me £25 as it was broken when I got it) will have to suffice Wink

Sounds like a bargain to me! My system is an Onkyo tx nr414 with Mordaunt Short 502i, 504 & 903. Need a sub so one day I'll build my own - not sure when I'll have time though!

Re: TV or dedicated monitor for console gaming?

Samsung TV. Previously had a Samsung monitor, switched to a BenQ 'gaming monitor,' it was the worst thing I've ever bought, sent it back within a week and bought the TV. The BenQ's colours were terribly washed out despite many attempts at calibrating it. The TV took ten minutes to setup and is perfect for everything after disabling the dynamic backlight.

PS3 is hooked up to a 40" Samsung in the living room. Only use it for media server though  Cheesy
