Steam login problems?

Lately regularly having steam fail to connect online just before the authentication, which requires 2-5 steam client restarts before it does finally give me the login screen.  My PN account is currently on what ever monitors you have on my line due to a packetloss fault, so wondering if that is affecting steam from connecting initially

Is this immediately after turning the PC on, or just when you start Steam but the PC's been on for a while? I find mine doesn't always connect straight away on bootup but leave it a minute or two before restarting and it's fine.
