Speed down pings up.... so much for BBYW Pro!

The last couple of days I've been suffering problems with World in Conflict again. I've had a long running issue with the game and Plus.net since it was released. I switched to BBYW Pro in the hope it would fix it but I am now having more problems with the game.
Doing some testing of my connection it appears something is wrong...

This is about double the normal result.
Should be on 3000Kbps profile and have 448Kbps upstream.

Any help appreciated Sad

Re: Speed down pings up.... so much for BBYW Pro!

Hi Firejack,
Those pings don't look out of the ordinary for a line with interleaving on (yours is set to auto).  Do you want me to turn it off?
Have they changed much recently?

My line becomes horribly unstable without Interleaving. Normally with Interleaving ON I get around 28-30ms for the results.

Right.
In that case I'd try rebooting and seeing if you see different response times on a different gateway.  You really shouldn't but it's worth trying.

Seems to of fixed itself. Just tried another game and all is well. Another mystery to add to the list  Huh

Found the problem. Turns out my Linux system that I use as my Router got into a loop and the CPU was locked at 100%. Was very easy to diagnose the problem when the overheat alarm starting going off Wink

Re: Speed down pings up.... so much for BBYW Pro!

Hmmm I think something is broken somewhere. Just had the same problem with the game. I ran a Wireshark capture and got lots of errors.
I then changed around the Wiring on my network and connected directly to my ADSL Modem and tested again with another Wireshark capture. Same problems.
I've just reconnected everything. I'm still having issues and I've just done another capture and I'm even getting errors browsing websites....
Just tried another machine, same problems! Would suggest a problem with my connection or setup on my machines.
Some of the errors I'm getting included
TCP segment of a reassembled PDU (MTU problem?? I'm using 1492 as I'm using PPPoE to connect)
TCP previous segment lost
TCP Dup Ack
TCP Retransmission
Would suggest packets are being lost or broken up somewhere between myself and the server Huh

Hi there,
Are you using an MTU size of 1492 on both your router and your computer?

Re: Speed down pings up.... so much for BBYW Pro!

Can anyone explain to me why using PPPoE would be beneficial to using PPPoA?

Because it won't work at all on some exchanges and causes lots of amusement watching the head scratching by the support staff?

Re: Speed down pings up.... so much for BBYW Pro!

Jelv speaks the truth. I just like to test the support staff  Grin
Seriously though. The reason is the modem I use works in a passive mode. The modem Syncs the line with the exchange then I connect to Plus.net from my Linux machine. The Modem is connected to my Linux machine by Ethernet so I therefore have to use PPPoE as PPPoA won't work.
I did set Path MTU Discovery but I'm guessing its not working correctly for some sites (probably their Firewall).

I think you need to pingable for MTU path discovery to work - are you?
