Re: Lag on LoL Wilsor split off

Hi there
I am having the same problem as OP, extreme lag spikes making it unplayable. Have opened a support ticket but I feel like I'm going in circles, have had 3 technicians out, with no success. Maybe our upstream limit is being hit as with the other people?
I have done speedtests and the upload time is terribly low.
Can you help?
Cheers

Re: Lag on LoL

An update:
I requested a removal of our upload limit and that has gone through. This bought our upload speed from about 0.2Mb/s to 0.6Mb/s... A bit less than I imagined, but no worries.
The lag in LoL still exists pretty badly. Although steam downloads and other types of downloading seem to not affect LoL at all, (unless maxed out - which doesn't happen often), Youtube and other video streaming sites cause major lag spikes which pretty much make the game unplayable. I had my flatmate try streaming a video in just 360p on youtube or Twitch, and if he skipped ahead to different parts of the video ( causing the video player to constantly buffer) the connection to LoL would die, causing ping of 300ms making it unplayable.
It's weird that steam and other downloads work fine though.
is there some way to set LoL as the highest priority stable connection and set videos to the lowest priority? any kind of QoS that can be done with the router?

Cheers

I got this:
I did a wireshark first and found loads of packets coming from 95.172.65.35, so I assumed that was the server it assigned me, as the 95.172.65 part was the same so..

Have you tried playing while someone is streaming on the same router?

Re: Lag on LoL

Just looking at your account, you still have a fault open talking about general lag spikes, disconnections and packet loss.  Is this still happening?    Or is it just LoL where you see issues?

Re: Lag on LoL

willsor:  Over the past couple of days, can you remember when you were playing LoL?  Between what times and went was the lag worse?

Re: Lag on LoL

the disconnections have pretty much stopped, but packet loss and lag spikes occur pretty much randomly all throughout the day:
We did a packet loss test for about 10 minutes straight, with the worst offenders being:
http://imgur.com/rdL6tez
between the times labelled on these pingtests, we would receive an A or B internet rating with no packet loss, so this test we did over 10 minutes actually looked something like :
A A A A  A A B B  B A A D A A A A A F A A B A A A A D A A A A A
                                      ^                  ^                      ^
where the arrows are the tests from the picture

As for the LoL ping, we tried a test on Monday around 5-7PM with flatmate A having about 15 youtube videos open, flatmate B downloading through utorrent and myself playing LoL and downloading through steam, and this killed the LoL connection.
Out of curiosity we just tried the same exact test moments ago, and LoL was completely unaffected. Maybe something to do with peak times for PlusNet then?

Re: Lag on LoL

I just tried with WoW and CoD4 though, and no lag at all even when other people on the router are using it heavily. But then it didnt lag LoL either, so kind of inconclusive test  Undecided

This sounds like a saturated upload.  We'll check to see what your upload rate was then

...but if it was the same during this test, shows otherwise...

Yeah. I'm not actually sure what you'd define as "peak time" when it comes to internet usage. I'd guess it'd be 5-9 in the evening though, that was all I was basing that claim on  Wink

Re: Lag on LoL

You are uncapped now.  That might be why you couldn't replicate?

Re: Lag on LoL

Well the test we did on Monday was after being uncapped. We were trying it out because I just received the text that our upload was uncapped, and it changed almost nothing at the time..
will removal of the cap on upstream show up on a speedtest.net check? Because we tried on Monday and we had exactly the same upload speed (0.6Mb/s) as we do right now

Re: Lag on LoL

Would you be able to set up a TBB Graph so that we can take a more detailed look at your line?
Information on this can be found here: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,106312.0.html
I'd be happy to take a further look at this to see why you're seeing such a large amount of packet loss - which I think is probably causing a large proportion of the problem here.

Re: Lag on LoL

Ok, I have set up a TBB graph. Should I share it here or somewhere else? I feel like it would be off topic for lag on LoL specifically?

I think sharing it on this thread would be fine, it keeps things all in one place that way.
