Random ping spikes in League of Legends

As most, if not all of you are probably aware, as a gamer, ping can be somewhat a curse high, and even more so when not stable.
Lately I've been suffering random jumps in ping while playing LoL, jumping from about 50 or so ping, which is the lowest I've seen it, all the way up to the cap at 999 ping for a few seconds. This wouldn't be that bad, but whenever I play a 20 minute match for example, these spikes occur randomly with intervals of anywhere between 30 seconds & 5 minutes in-between.
On top of this, yesterday(The 9th of May) I was having trouble maintaining connection to a game, connection was fine and perfectly stable until about the last 5 or so minutes of it, during which I'd disconnected and reconnected about 6 times for my friends in the match. I also suffered the same thing this morning(10th of May) during a bot-game to test this issue, though this only occurred in one game out of a few so far, but I couldn't play for the entire match, which is a large problem.
At a guess, these seem like separate issues to me, and while the second one seems to have resolved itself, the first has not.
-------------
Additional information I forgot to add (HerpDerp)
On the 9th of May, during the game I was continually disconnecting/reconnecting from for the last few minutes of it, I was on Skype with a friend during the entire game, and Skype had no problem at all throughout the entire game. I find this odd because to my knowledge, on Plusnet systems, gaming & Voice calls are given similar, if not the same level of priority, so I'd imagine they'd be using an equal portion of the Broadband.
On the 10th of May, the issue occurred while JUST LoL was using the Internet.
And as a side note, I'm the only person using the internet in my home, and my laptop and the programs mentioned above were definitely the only things using the internet during the mentioned games. (all other pieces of tech within my home are turned off when I try to game online, a habit I picked up from using BT broadband because it was so god-damn slow when any number of things were running if the number was above 1)

This is still going on, 3 games so far today out of 3 all disconnected at some point or another, currently having trouble getting back into the 3rd.

Re: Random ping spikes in League of Legends

Hi KhromeHound,
I've taken a look at your line and I can see a large number of disconnections. Are any of the below disconnections caused by you restarting the router?

Your line is operating below the speed our suppliers would deem acceptable. Something is causing your SNR to jump up which is dragging your connection rate down. Are you able to connect your router into your Test Socket and removing any extension cabling?

Re: Random ping spikes in League of Legends

Lets see. Off the top of my head, those on Monday were me trying to find the best place for the Router in our house (After trying a few sockets, weird thing, Half the house away in a normal socket & using a phone extension cable gave me the exact same speed as Master socket+no additional cables and in the same room as the router, so something seemed a bit off there)
I can't remember each individual time, but I have had a few issues that my experience with BT, I knew resetting the router would solve. - The Internet light going red and my signal randomly dying being one of those. ( I am aware resetting does slow down speeds, but this doesn't really bother me as much because I'm used to getting a rather low speed.
Generically speaking I have had to reset the router a fair few times to solve a red light/dropped connection issue that occurs randomly throughout a game, however I'm fairly certain I haven't reset the router that many times.
As for the Test Socket + no extension cabling, if you mean the Master Socket, then my router is currently set up that way right now.

Re: Random ping spikes in League of Legends

Thanks for letting me know that some of drops may have been from you trying to resolve the issue.
The Test Socket as can be seen here: http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/master-socket-guide.shtml#whatsTest is the socket behind the faceplate of your Master Telephone Socket.

"Exposing the test socket disconnects your internal wiring, making it the only active telephone point in your property." Would doing this screw up the phone at my house ?

Re: Random ping spikes in League of Legends

It would disconnect any telephones that you have connected to any other phone sockets at your property.
It will rule out the internal wiring potentially being the cause for the issue. Ideally, having your router connected to your Test Socket for 24 hours would be helpful. You'd still be able to use your house phone that's connected to the main socket.

Re: Random ping spikes in League of Legends

I'm afraid I cannot currently do this. We're currently reliant on our home phone as the only phone, and this being an old house, the wiring is a little odd I think. Regardless, is there anything else that could be attempted for the time being?

You could connect an alternative microfilter?

Attempted that a few times, no significant difference is ping or speeds that I have noticed.

Re: Random ping spikes in League of Legends

You can go ahead and raise a fault at http://faults.plus.net however, the Fault Checker will request that you connect your router into the Test Socket to avoid potential charges. If we sent an engineer out, for example, and it was found to be the internal wiring, charges may be applied.
That's really the main reason I mentioned it in my previous replies.

Re: Random ping spikes in League of Legends

Alright. Well I'll keep this Thread Saved for now. I'll post on here again when I can actually switch to the test socket. But I have a rather large download going on atm, and any interruptions set it back to nothing.

Re: Random ping spikes in League of Legends

Right, it is set up in the Test Socket now. Do I need to do anything else or just leave it for a day or so?
As a side note too, the router is currently set up with without any extension wiring and such.

Re: Random ping spikes in League of Legends

No, if you could leave it in the test socket we can review your line in 24-48 hours.
