Problems with Thomson router - is it worth buying a gaming router?

Hi,
Last night I was having severe problems playing the game Rift. Latency was huge, averaging around 2 seconds, and sometimes going up as high as 5, making the game unplayable. After some investigation, I found out that the problem seems to have been my router - when I power cycled it, my latency was back to very low levels.
I'm still using the Thomson router that came with my Plusnet account. However if it's going to perform like this, then I'm open to alternatives. Are better routers available? I've seen that some companies make specialist routers for gaming - are these worthwhile? Any recommendations?

Re: Problems with Thomson router - is it worth buying a gaming router?

Hi there,
This is down to a known issue with our traffic management platform that's currently being investigated, so please don't blame the router - it'll have worked following the reboot because you connected to a different switch. In addition the signature for RIFT packets hasn't been added yet so it's not being picked up as gaming. This is due to happen next week, I believe early on Wednesday morning.
Might be worth having a look at the RIFT thread: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,94022.0.html
