Poor Ping?

I'm on Pro with Interleaving turned off.
I wish someone from plus.net could explain why overnight my ping has doubled.

The high ping on the first hop is the bundled Thomson router from plus.net. It's a known issues that there is a delayed ping direct to the device on a tracert but traffic passes through unaffected (interestingly if you ping the device directly on 192.168.1.254 you should get the correct 1ms or less) . If it was a true delay every response following would be equal or greater to than the first hop.

Just tried my belkin and the ping times are the same.
I would use it instead of the Thomson but the Belkin drops my vpn connection randomly.

We need to boycote all these free broadband bundles such as Sky, Talktalk etc.... they are killing the network

maphisto2000 you 100% right about the Thompson router - I did check the ping issue with my Netgear DG834GT with the same ping time to the BBC with the exception of the router ping which was 1ms.
sharpyuk, yes Pro is meant to have no traffic shaping but there could be a glitch or something deliberate from Plusnet's end that could change that.

Can anyone from plus.net suggest why after 2 years of pings <20ms I'm now lucky to get a ping under 40ms?
The last 6 months with plus.net have been terrible, over Christmas it was speed issues - now speed seems stable and the latency has increased.

I am on premium and my speeds are great, average ping 13ms, A on pingtest and about 5400 on speed.
So it can't be all across the network because this always seems to be consistant for me.

Maybe we should all downgrade from Pro to Premuim to get the ping we want.  I've raised a ticket to get PN to look at this, will let you know the outcome.

Sounds like a plan... it might be stated "line speed" but what is "line speed".... latency or just mbps....  Premium has worked great for me and just able to upgrade to ADSL 2+

Just gone though all this myself (now fixed) but I was told they'd changed the setting for the whole network.
All my high pings were through
