Been playing Quake Live recently.
Too a uk server i ping around the 40-50ms mark. Which im content with.
But maybe on avergage once per 90 seconds I get a drop in my conenction for maybe 1second.
Which can be very frustraying in fast paced FPS games.
I had interleavign turned off some time ago. To try too drop my WOW ping.
My wow ping now can be anything from 150ms-250ms depending on time of day. Still seems high but better than it was.
The drops on my connection in FPS games are frustrating cause im not sure whats csausing it, and not sure how too find out.
Is is my system?
IS it cuz i connect too a wireless router?
Is it the quality of my line?
Is it plusnet?
Or is it something else?

Help me fidn the problem please

Hello there GeN and welcome to the Forums!
I have had a similar issue with a Game of base origin (Wolfenstein Enemy Territory).
I think you need to Check 2 things.
Game Configuration
Quake has a few Network Settings which help improve stability of Ping,
thus smoother game play.
Follow this link Here.
You will need to enable the Lagometer.
That should help you identify if there is anything System side which is causing the stops, or the Connection.
If it is your System, rather than the Connection / Game...
If you could provide a Process list from your Machine, that would help a great deal.
CTRL + SHIFT + ESC -> Processes Tab, Alt + Print Screen to grab just the box... Save the Image...
Upload it somewhere and reply with the Link
Wirless Router
Wirless... Where do I start.
Well, I tried gaming on it and I never gamed on it again.
But assuming this is your only option I will work with the circumstances...
I would advise that you try checking your Router for an option where you can set which Channel the Router uses (from 1 to 16 or so).
Find an empty Channel by checking which other Wireless Networks are around, and try using an unused/less used Channel.
I would enable MAC Filtering, if your Router supports this. and add only the Machines that you use.
I'm sure it will help in the long run in terms of outsiders atempting to Connect ...
Hope that helps!

I think trying a wired connection instead of using wireless, I've always found gaming sucks using wireless..

I have just found an old Post from one of my Gaming Members on this very subject...
I completely forgot about the "Windows Wireless Zero" Configuration Service,
which intermitantly will cause latency.
Here.
Hope that helps!

Hi,
From your post are you using a wireless connection.
If you are try using a network cable instead while gaming and not Wireless. Wireless networking is not always reliable for gaming as the performance can vary.
If you find you get much better performance by using a cable then thats your problem. If you ping bbc.co.uk what average ping do you get ?
I get about 16ms when connected via a network cable but over wireless it is less stable.
Hope that helps.

I have one computer in the same room as my wireless n router, that has full signal and gaming is acceptable. However the computer down the hall only gets a "Fair" signal (2 bars), this causes major lag in online games, but is sufficient for surfing, downloading and VoIP.

Wireless sucks for most latency sensitive apps in my experience (both personally and professionally)
Ethernet is still the way to go.
