Re: Ping problems - whats going on? Seriously getting annoyed.

I havnt read the original pages but have you got your computer wired to the router via ethernet cable?
Your cables are all fine? I once had a huge problem which went undetected because my ethernet cable was split INSIDE!
Try pinging your routers they should be returning ping of <1
Have you requested to have your interleaving switched off yet?
My pings are very stable even at peak times I can get solid green bars on mw2. These are my pings off peak:

Yes my cables are all fine. (I only get the latency problem in the evenings round 5pm-12pm) So I can rule this out.
Try pinging your routers they should be returning ping of <1
Can you explain how I can check this?  I don't know how to do it sorry 😕
Have you requested to have your interleaving switched off yet?
What's this interleaving?  How do i request this?  Via a ticket?

Re: Ping problems - whats going on? Seriously getting annoyed.

Interleaving is a kind of error correction on ADSL and helps to provide a good signal under poor conditions.
However the downside is that it increases ping times, a disadvantage in gaming.
You can request to have it turned off in a ticket although if you can catch the eye of a Comms Team member....all the better. Wink Smiley

The routers and gateways such as pcl-gw02 give direct pings a lower priority than routing traffic, so at busy times it will appear that they are holding up your traffic when they aren't.
You can see from the final destination time of 17.677ms that this apparent 'spike' has not impacted your connection (17ms to BBC is what I would be very happy with).

How much longer can this possibly go on for? It's a waste of time even trying to play an FPS game online competitively. I can't believe my gaming habits are being decided for me by my ISP.  Roll_eyes

Consistently high pings above 200ms doesn't seem synonymo9us top me of the problems we've been having with the network. Just a thought but are you running any other applications in the background as you're gaming. I've checked you data transfer figures and there were quite a few days throughout November where you've uploaded in excess of a gigabyte of data (sometimes close to 2GB). To do that you'd need to be going flat out for at least a third of the day. If you're doing this whilst your gaming then it's going to have a detrimental impact on your gaming.
@Taylor3, your account looks OK. Are your pings consistently high or do they intermittently spike as you're playing?

The occasion when the pings were over 200ms was a one-off, and unrelated to anything else running on my network.
Bandwidth-intensive tasks on my network are scheduled to run overnight, through to midday (basically any time in which our peer-to-peer bandwidth isn't throttled). With an upload cap of 37kbps, which is the maximum I ever set, it only takes 12 hours to upload 1.6GB, which seems about right (considering the overheads of other applications) for the usage figures you provided. I usually don't game during this period, but if I do, I stop said tasks first. I even go as far as removing all my computers from the network when I'm gaming, to be absolutely sure that they are not interfering.
My entire set up right now is identical to how it was with my previous ISP. There was no great variation in latency like there has been over the past few weeks with Plusnet.
Fortunately, over the past few days things have been relatively good when I've checked it out (others have reported the same) and so hopefully we are nearing the end of what has been a very unsatisfactory period. I appreciate all the feedback we receive and would happily say that Plusnet have excellent levels of communication and support across all sorts of mediums.

Talor I would still raise a ticket to have your interleaving turned off: https://portal.plus.net/wizard/index.html?Ea82ChdSAqqwtYJcjZV%2Fjl8BeHfnW7ogQYILXVCBFsnFyRVJeEpVZrrG...; It made a huge difference to my evening pings, the quiter your line the better the result!  Wink

Re: Ping problems - whats going on? Seriously getting annoyed.

Hmmm, the network's as well balanced as it was last week (if not more so), and the changes last Thursday should also have helped. Monday is our busiest night but regardless this still concerns me.
@Myst is it WoW you're having difficulties with too?

Re: Ping problems - whats going on? Seriously getting annoyed.

No Bob
Mainly MW2 on pc at present but affecting both CoD4 and 5 too. Last night with MW2 instead of connecting once ping range was 80ms it was reaching 170+ before finding a game, once in it was unplayable.
It is my dedicated server that i ping too as a rule although i get similar stats for others i test.
